Development Intern
This is an unpaid internship – but training with CFRE credits will be available to the candidate.
Responsibilities:
- Research potential foundation and corporate donors, using internet research tools
- Maintain and help coordinate donor files and processes
- Prepare research profiles for development staff and volunteers
- Attend and participate in development department meetings as needed
- Updating electronic donor records in fundraising database
- Assist with special event preparations and staff special events as needed
- Assist with other donor relations and stewardship activities
- Additional assignments may include print publications and web-based communications
- Other tasks as assigned Research potential donors, including individuals and institutions and update the organization's CRM with research
- Support the writing and editing of grants as needed
- Develop donor communications utilizing the organization's email marketing system
- Develop a storytelling database and write vignettes for social media and donor campaigns
- Support campaign efforts including online and hard copy campaigns
- Provide editing and writing support as needed
- Update correspondence in relevant databases
- Provide general administrative and database support to the development team as needed

Qualifications:
Internships are open to college and graduate students or post-graduates. A genuine interest in the work of nonprofit development is required. Other qualifications include:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Attention to detail
- Ability to handle confidential material with discretion
- Excellent communications skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to commit to a regular work schedule, with flexibility upon occasion
- Experience with Salesforce development software or other database software preferred, but not required
- A minimum of 15 hours per week is required. 3-6 month commitment preferred.
- A general understanding and commitment to our mission and vision.

- Comfortable working in a virtual team environment
- Computer savvy with knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and cloud based systems
- Genuine desire to learn and grow nonprofit communications, fundraising and operational skills
Note: While the intern can work remotely, preference is to candidates residing in the Southern California region.
